The Willie B. Hatcher American Legion Post 516 was established at 13 April 1953 as a temporary chapter. The Post was formally chartered at 11 March 1985. Mr. Hatcher was born on May 1917 to Bernie and Rosa Hatcher of Highway 42, McDonough, GA.
Mr. Hatcher was drafted into the United States Army during 1941. He was subsequently assigned to the 97th Engineer General Support Group located at Manila, Philippines. He attained the rank of Technician Fifth Class while on active duty, and was killed in action on November 1, 1944.
Mr. Hatcher is interned at the United States Manila American Cemetery located at Manila, Philippines. His final resting place is “Burial Plot F Row 14 Grave 93.”
The Commander of Post 516 is planning to visit the grave site of Mr. Hatcher. Post 516 has limited resources and the Commander is requesting that the general public and the business communities donate funds to support this humane effort to acknowledge the sacrifices made by Mr. Hatcher for the United States and the McDonough communities.
